The Graudenz and Regensburg were laid down to replace the old cruisers of the Prinzeß Wilhelm class. Both survived the war and served until the 30s.

Graudenz - 1912: laid down as replacement of Prinzess Wilhelm at Kaiserliche Werft, Kiel; launched 25 Oct 1913; 1914-08-10: commissioned; ceded to France in 1920 transferred to Italy and recommissioned as Ancona; scrapped in 1938
Regensburg - 1912: laid down as replacement of Irene at A.G. Weser, Bremen; launched 25 Apr 1914; 1915-01-03: commissioned; ceded to France in 1920 and recomissioned as Strasbourg; used for accommodation from 1934 to 1944 at Lorient.
